Peppermill Dam is the largest of the four Devilla Lochs and makes a pleasant 4.5 mile circuit.
Distance: 4.5 miles / 7.2 km
Ascent: 330 feet / 100m
Terrain: unsurfaced paths (can be muddy at times)
Start / finish: north of Kincardine – grid ref NS 879 810
Facilities: buses to Kincardine, refreshments at the Puttery, parking in large layby on A977 at start point
Other walks in Devilla Forest:
The easiest way to access the dam is from the A977 road. Park in the layby at grid ref NS 879 810. From here a farm access track leads into the forest past the golf course. Keep right at the first junction heading towards Windyhill Farm. Turn left on to the path in the woods which leads up to the dam. You will pass under the power lines. Walk across the dam and follow the path on the north side of the loch keeping the water to your right. After about a mile you will start to leave the loch and will reach a junction of forest tracks. Take the right hand track at this point to head back in the direction from which you came. You will soon start to see the loch on your right hand side again as you follow this south side path back to the dam. Return to the road using the same path and farm track as you started on.
