A circular route of just under 3 miles through old woodland between Inverkeithing and Dalgety Bay with good views over the railway bridge. Approximately 100m of ascent involved. This walk can be a bit muddy after heavy rain.
Letham Hill also features as part of the Inverkeithing Dalgety Bay circular walk.
Park at Dalgety Bay station and walk back along the Hillend Bypass towards Inverkeithing. Take extreme caution crossing the busy roads around here. On your left hand side you will see a set of steps leading up into the woods.
Go up these steps then follow the path in the woods with the houses to your left. Another path joins from the left then the path zig zags up the hill. Once up this bit of hill, the hard work is behind you and the path becomes a more gentle ascent as it follows the ridge line of the woods.
Keep on following this path south west though the woods passing a couple of benches on the way and an old signpost at a junction where turning left would take you down into Dalgety Bay. When you exit the woods to a grassy area a path leads to your right. If you are in a hurry take this path which leads round the back of Preston Quarry but if you can spare the time continue straight on for a short distance to reach an open area with good views over the Forth and the railway bridge.
From the point, keep the quarry fence to your left and follow the path round the outside of the fence to reach the back of the quarry. A short steep bit of path leads off to your right down into the fields. Follow this path and its continuation across the fields to the houses. When you reach the houses keep to the left on the grass (houses to your left) for easy walking until you reach an old signpost. Turn right at the signpost onto a farm track along the field edge. Follow this path as it turns round to the left to reach a group of converted houses at Spencerfield.
Go straight on through the houses to reach the access road which leads out to Hillend Road. Cross over and turn right. Look out for a path on your left handside leading to an underpass under the busy main road. Go through the underpass and on the north side of the road turn right on to a path which takes you to the west end of Hillend village. From here it is a straightforward walk along the road through Hillend back to the station. Take care when crossing the road to reach the station entrance.
