A 6.5 mile circular route taking in the coastal path between Leven and Lundin Links, returning inland via Lundin Woods and Letham Glen. The route is on paths and tracks which provide easy walking though some sections could be muddy. A few sections are on surfaced road and there is the option of walking along the beach.
- Distance: 6.5 miles / 10.5 km (can be shortened to 5 miles)
- Ascent: 300 feet / 90 m
- Terrain: Mixed – unsurfaced paths (can be muddy), surfaced paths, beach/sand dune paths, quiet road.
- Start / finish: Leven (bus service nearby and parking along the promenade)

Start from the middle car park on the Promenade at Leven KY8 4HZ. An alternative start point would be the car park at Letham Glen or even Silverburn Park. From the car park either walk along the Promenade or go down on to the beach heading in an easterly direction (sea to your right). When you reach the caravan park at the end of the road the official route of the Fife Coastal Path goes round the back of the caravans or alternatively you can walk along the beach in front of them. After the caravans, the coastal path returns to the sea along the top of the sand dunes alongside the golf course. When the coastal path turns inland across the golf course, either go down on to the beach or continue along the dune path at the edge of the golf course (no dogs) dropping down to the beach. At high tides you may have to wait a wee while for the tide to recede on this next section.
For a slightly shorter walk, turn left on the coastal path when it heads inland across the golf course, to reach the corner of Links Road and go left to the main road.
Walk along the beach until you reach a rocky area where a path goes back into the sand dunes. Soon the coastal path rejoins the path you are on and you can follow it until you reach the houses at Lundin Links. Turn left at a grassy area before the houses and then left again on to the route of an old railway line through the woods. You should now be heading back westwards. As you approach the golf club you will again be on the route of the Fife Coastal Path. At the golf club either walk along the road following the signs or for better views walk on the railway embankment. Follow the road round to the right and then turn left. At the next right hand bend, where the coastal path heads on to the golf course, stay on the road to reach the main road.
Take extreme care crossing the road at this point as it can be very busy, and go up Pilmuir Road opposite. Ahead of you across the field you will see Lundin Tower (private house) where you are now heading. After 300m go left at an open gate into a field just before the road to Lundin Tower. Follow the field edge / tractor lines around the outside of the house grounds (take care to keep to the edge and don’t walk on crops). Once around the house, pick up a track that leads into Lundin Woods.
Lundin Woods is a delightful mixed woodland and although there are a few minor muddy bits, the track is relatively dry underfoot. Follow the track as it curves left and then turn right when it reaches a vehicle track. At this point you will be able to see the poly-tunnels of the Blacketyside Fruit Farm. When the track reaches the farm turn right. Note the “safety signs” about this being a working farm. After more poly-tunnels the track turns left at a purple core path arrow. After a gate, the track becomes more of a road and reaches a public road. Cross over and follow the green sign post and purple arrows onto the track opposite. Go left at a purple arrow and then go right following a green footpath sign when you reach a farm, to walk round the outside of the farm.
Keep on the farm track until you reach a large gap in the wall on your left opposite a reservoir. Just inside the gap is a welcome seat. You are now in the lovely Letham Glen on the outskirts of Leven. When you reach a bridge over the Scoonie Burn go right to follow the burn downstream. It doesn’t matter which side of the burn you choose to walk on and you can even change sides part way down by means of stone bridges. Before reaching the play area and car park you will need to be on the right hand side of the burn.
At the entrance to the glen go out to the main road and cross by means of the pedestrian crossing. Immediately opposite you is a path running alongside the Scoonie burn. Follow this path until you reach North Links where you turn left towards the golf club. Turn right at the golf club onto a path and then turn right again following a cycle route sign into a strip of trees behind houses. When you reach the burn go left and keep left to reach East Links where you turn right. A purple arrow indicates the next left turn onto a path which again follows the burn passing the golf course and a bowling green to bring you back to the Promenade.
