Hello, welcome to Fife Walking. I started this site in April 2016 as a means of sharing information about walking routes I had created for a local walking group. Experiencing people saying, “I’ve lived in Fife all my life and never knew this path existed”, along with the tendency for them to stick to tried and tested routes, led me to the realisation that I had something too offer. At the time I was recovering from serious illness and rebuilding my fitness and strength. As a longstanding hillwalker, my means of doing this were to get out walking. As the hills were a bit too much for me in those early days I set about exploring my own local area and the walking opportunities it had to offer.

Initially the site was just an interesting diversion whilst I was off work. Over time it has grown to what it is today. It is entirely my own work with any exceptions to this being acknowledged and credited. I produce it in my spare time and at my own expense. It is not a commercial enterprise and neither do I receive any advertising revenue from it.

All the routes have been walked by myself and have usually been planned from studying various maps and then going out to try walking the route. Sometimes this is successful, but sometimes it is not and I come home without having found a new route suitable for publication. I do not in general take routes from other websites or guide books and re-use them.

Paths and tracks do change over time so no guarantee can be given that any particular walk will be do-able in the future. Particularly in the Summer months some paths can become very overgrown to the point of being almost unusable for the casual walker looking for a relatively easy stroll. In recent years, fallen trees on lesser used routes have become a bit of an issue. Some routes may be off path on rough terrain where there is no path to follow and you may need to do your own navigation. Please do not expect a “sanitised” version of the outdoors when walking any of these routes. If you come across anything that is a permanent change please do let me know so that I can amend the route description if need be.

If you are using any of these routes for group or organised walks, please credit Fife Walking as being your source of information.  Link back to the this site if possible. You get the routes and I get extra publicity for the website: a win win situation! Please don’t just copy and paste my text and then pass it off as your own. Planning, researching, walking and writing up the routes is a time consuming process for which I don’t make any money! This website is totally non-commercial and actually costs me money for hosting and the domain name!

Finally, I have included numerous links to websites of interest for further information. Over time, as things on the web are changed, some of these links may become “broken”. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. It would of course be helpful if you reported any broken links to me so that I can update them.

Happy Walking
