Route map Lendrick Hill

There’s a green signpost for Lendrick Hill at the start point so you will know that you are in the right place!

Follow the forest track up the hill, initially through a felled area and later through typical forestry plantation. After about 1 km, just beyond a hairpin bend, a waymarker post is passed on your right hand side. One possible line of ascent is to follow this “Walkers are Welcome” post up the steep firebreak. An easier option though, is to continue on the track for a further 400 m to reach a green and yellow core path marker post.

Turn right at this marker post following a trodden route into the trees to quickly reach another marker post. Follow the post round to your left and make your way up the firebreak on what can be rather wet ground. At a crossroads is a further marker post pointing left up the hill. The route to your right at this point, is the upper end of first fire break that you passed. Continue up the hill to reach a fence with a stile.

Cross the stile and follow a grassy trodden path to the summit cairn. Also in the vicinity of the summit but slightly lower is a trig point. On a clear day there are good views from here out across the Forth.

The easiest descent is to go back the same way but if you don’t mind a short steep bit, then descend roughly north west to a corner in the fence. The fence is easily crossed at the corner where the barb wire has been removed. The firebreak in front of you is a direct descent back to the forest track. If you don’t like the look of the steepness you can follow the fence back round to the stile and return by your outward route. If descending the fire break, good footwear is strongly recommended as it can be very slippy. A pair of walking poles would also be helpful.

Once back on the forest track, turn left for a 2 km downhill walk back to the parking area.
